Building a Spanning Structure

Important for architects is to cooperate in groups. Today's task ask us to work effectively in groups by knowing our own strengths to come to a resolution which everybody in the group would support.
We had to create a spanning structure which goes from one table top to the other while touching the floor in maximum two places. The bridge should be high enough so that a folded table could passes below.
In the end the bridge would get tested by a car driving from one side to the other safely.
The materials were 30 bamboo bars, cardboards, masking tape and elastics.

We started with sketching our ideas on a paper sheet so everybody in the group knew about our plans and also that we were able to spread the work.
While we were discussing our ideas we were talking separately and everybody listened to other ideas so we got along with each other well and we came up with a structure for our bride pretty fast.

Our idea was to connect the bamboo bars with masking tape to create an arch which would connect the two tables. To make it more stable we were thinking of crossing two bamboo bar arches and also fix them together with masking tape.
It was difficult to attach the bamboo bars on the table so they would have the same high.
After we had managed that we attached the cardboards on top of the bamboo bars to have a ground for the bridge. We measured the wide so the car would be able to cross our bridge.
To design a better looking bridge we used the structure of a hourglass shape by having bigger ends and a smaller top.

At the same time some people of the group cut triangles out of the cardboards to design the handrail.

After finishing the structure and the triangles we put the pieces randomly together so it would look fancy and edgy.
The problem we had at first was that our triangle handrail did not stick to the basement of our bridge but as soon as more triangles were added the structure it turned out well.
In the end we painted our bridge in different colours so it became an eye catcher and protrude from the others work.

Our final spanning structure was stable enough for a car to drive from one side to the other safely.
I like how we worked together as a team because everybody had a task and was helping out the others if they needed a hand. In addition I think that our bridge has a simple but also stable structure but is because of the colourful triangle shaped handrail nifty and special.
Furthermore I enjoyed working in a team because you get to hear others ideas and points of views so you come to a great and maybe different expected resolution.

British Values - Individual Liberty

The country Britain not only stands against terrorism and discrimination but also fights against those issues to protect society. The Prevent Strategy was set up in 2006 by the government to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists. The strategy is subdivided in three major aspects which are challenging the ideology that stands for terrorism, protecting innocent people and supporting those sectors which have a risk of radicalization. To prevent that young adults or even children turn into terrorists the government developed the Equality Act in 2010 which tackles inequality and prevents discrimination against people with 'protected characteristics' inside public schools. Examples for 'protected characteristics' are the age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, the religion, etcetera. In fact of that the British Values are defined as "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with differe...

FMP Proposal

The Final Mayor project is an eight weeks long project on a topic which I have to decide. To begin the project I need to write a proposal explaining the concept and aim of the project i am planing on doing. It can be anything such as advertising or graphic campaigns. Starting with a huge brain storming that shows themes I am interested in and ideas. I Split the mind map in four different topics, diabetes, social problems during different centuries, the danger of nightlife and globalisation. To think of more details and write down more ideas about each topic I also did mind maps on each single theme. While doing those I payed attention to think of questions that interests me and on which I could focus doing the project. My peer members helped me to sort out ideas which were not that important, focus and improve those which I could develop in my further process. Starting with initial ideas I formed proper questions out of them for which I could collect research. Not...

Evaluation - Art Fund - Live Project

Starting the process I researched various graphic campaigns to get an idea of what I could design. The library helped me to find great advertisements and different designs. Regarding to that I realised that research should always be the first step before starting to design my own graphics because even though I did not know what to create I got inspired by other designer and were able to pitch my strongest ideas. The pitch helped me to decide what idea I want to focus on and how I could develop it. My peer members shared their thoughts and gave suggestions which helped me to get a better understanding of my outcome. I also learned that it is important to be confident in what I represent so I am able to convince my audience (in this case collectives) from my idea. Because we always practice sharing our designs and ideas in front of others I am now confident talking about my designs. It is easier for me to take critics and transfer them into my work than in the beginning of this ...
