The 3D Pathway involves a
lot of different subjects which can be merged. Product design just as
Animation and Theatre design are just a few of those different areas.
Marc Newson has his degree
in Product Design. He is designing what his costumers want him to
like shoes, tables, phones but also air planes. So even Product
Design is divided into a lot of different pathways.
A lot of designers, for
example Droog Design, Michael Marriott and Carl Clerkin, think that
products/objects can happen by accident or are made from things which
already exist. Designers get their inspirations often from their
environment and the things happening around them.
It is important to
photograph objects we like or even do not like to come up with
different design ideas.
Architecture is another
subject of the 3D Pathway.
Le Corbusier and John Pawson are the opinion that less is more. They simplifying their buildings and objects and are using a lot of squares so it looks expensive and modern.

Rick Baker, Rob Bottin and
the knb efx group are film costumer and animate creatures in films.
With the help of physical, digital and visual effects they create for
example monsters or zombies.
Today we had to work
individually as an architect and product designer. The aim was to
learn how to generate ideas and use unconventional materials to build
a structure and transfer it into an object. While doing the task we
had to record the process.
The material given to us
were spaghetti, glued gun and three balls.
I started with drawing some structure ideas of the object. While drawing I thought about
how I could create those structures so it would be stable.
We also had to sketch a structure with closed eyes and one portrait of somebody without looking at the paper which was up side down. From that task I learned that sometimes you do not have to think but start experimenting because some ideas arise by accident.

After that I glued some
spaghetti together. I was thinking about creating two triangles in
different sizes and connect them somehow so three different balls
would fit into my construction without touching the ground and each
other. To have a more stable structure I glued three spaghetti
together to get a bigger one.
I liked thinking about the structure but I also got to experience that I have to be careful not to overthink but experiment. This is especially important when you work with unconventional materials which are hard to estimate.

After finishing the simple
structure I added some details so it would look more fancy. Creating
the object went pretty well but I had to pay attention that the glue
would not stick to the table and that I do not put to much glue on
one point because otherwise the spaghetti would break.
I took some pictures in
different places and using different perspectives of my architecture design to find out which
environment would highlight my object the most.
Then I also took photographs
of my structure without the balls but money to stress that everything
in the world costs money. I put my object therefore in front of the
O2 because this building is a huge and expensive architecture design and therefore it reflects the money issue.
The next task ask us to
slip in the role of a Product Designer and create a shell or anything
else that would protects the structure.
I designed three different sized funnels which were stable because of their shape. Because I ended up with a piece of work that reminded me on a little dog I painted on the shell some dog equipments. When I used light effects it reminds on a lamp. Furthermore I edit the colours so the object would be more edgy.
