Seeing the Exhibition
“Syria - Story of a conflict” made me feel shocked and helpless
at the same time. The fact that this country has lost its stability
lies leads to poverty and civil war. Knowing about terror groups just
as ISIS who want to build up there own state and fight against the "unbelievers" (western society) shows the brutality dominating
Syria and its people.
The photo and the
sculpture of a bomb illustrate the hate between ethnic groups and the
fear that people have in their own country.
While looking at those images I felt scared but it also did not seem real and believable to me at the same time. It made me feel powerless because I can not help those people by ending the conflict.
While looking at those images I felt scared but it also did not seem real and believable to me at the same time. It made me feel powerless because I can not help those people by ending the conflict.
It also affected me in an
astonishing way by seeing people griefing but at the same time
fighting for their lives.
The quotes written on the
wall and said by people affected by the conflict convey tragic
lifestyles and vivid the whole exhibition.
Photographer Sergey
Ponomarev, a Russian photographer, visualise the situation in Syria's
streets in 2013/14. With his photos he tries to show the world that
Syria´s people are in danger anywhere and at any time. He expresses
the brutality in Syria by photographing destroyed buildings. Looking
at these photos I feel frightened. The thought of somebody wanting to
harm innocent people makes me sad. By showing children with no
parents and no homes playing in the ruins Ponomarev catches the
attention of the observer as well as my own.
After seeing the
exhibition I felt weak. Later on the day I felt like I have to help
those refugees.
