Single Shot Film

Looking at all kinds of films they benefit from humans physical thinking to affect their feelings and create illusion. In each film is a state of change. For instance love stories which start always happy but end sad.
That is because the one thing that every human knows is change. It could be just the age when somebody grows up but it also could be moving to another city or country. Because of that films bases on changes, too. Either the story starts positivity and ends negatively or it starts negatively and has a positive ending. During the course of the story two opposite forces are smashing together and harmonizing in the end.

But what is a single shot now?
A single shot is a film with no cuts so the whole movie is filmed with one shot. That means it is not produced from various shots that are later trimmed together to one single film.
The effect of a single shot film is that the watcher becomes a part of it as well as feelings increases.

To depict a narrative we had to produce an own film without any cuts.
Our story is about a happy teenaged girl who is waiting for the lift.
To have a strong first shot which shows the girls happiness we used the close up and also another source of light. At the time she walks to the lift it opens and two of her 'friends' come out. Both sides welcome each other nicely while passing.
The camera perspective shows still the girls face during she walks into the lift.
Right after the girl has turned her back to her 'friends' both of them turn around and start gossiping and giving her bitchy looks. The girl notice that and turns sad. As soon as the door is closed she breaks down and starts crying.
To express her feelings better we dammed the light in the lift.
Our final shot should be strong and refer to the beginning therefore we used the close up again and filmed the pain that the girl expresses.

At first it was hard for me and my group to come up with an idea that would force the watcher to commiserate with the actress. After a while we were thinking about producing a one shot of a person who is influenced by an angel and a devil which are on each shoulder. The side of the angel should be bright and the side of the devil dark. The problem on that was that we did not have the equipment for it.
When we came up with the idea of a girl who gets bullied by her 'fake friends' we wanted to film the clash in a corridor and then after let her walk into a bathroom to cry. After we recorded the scene none of us was very happy with the light because it was to bright in the bathroom. Therefore it did not stresses her feelings. That led us to think about another location just as the lift.

British Values - Individual Liberty

The country Britain not only stands against terrorism and discrimination but also fights against those issues to protect society. The Prevent Strategy was set up in 2006 by the government to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists. The strategy is subdivided in three major aspects which are challenging the ideology that stands for terrorism, protecting innocent people and supporting those sectors which have a risk of radicalization. To prevent that young adults or even children turn into terrorists the government developed the Equality Act in 2010 which tackles inequality and prevents discrimination against people with 'protected characteristics' inside public schools. Examples for 'protected characteristics' are the age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, the religion, etcetera. In fact of that the British Values are defined as "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with differe...

Process - Art Fund - Live Brief

This life project was different from the project we had worked on before. That is because the project brief is written by an existing company called Art Fund which wants us to create a campaign in their  name  that can drive sales of the student art pass amongst university students. Because of that we had to follow guidelines such as using their colour palette, font style and layout. The brief also gave us key insights in students lives as well as the key message which had to be express through our design to make the concept clear. I started with writing down the main aspects which the student art pass offers and what the company wants me to convey. Then I listed facts which needed to be considered for my campaign. My first idea was to design the student pass out of error windows which appear on the computer when an error happens. This idea was caused by the thought that students are mostly using computers and phones and are all of their free times onli...

Photo Sequence

The task was about teaching us how to create a story by using photos. The importance of that is to think about different aspects as we take them such as the composition, framing, light, location, shape/ form, texture/ line, colour, (a)symmetry, narrative, depth of field and the reveal. All in one it is necessary to know how to convey the story to the viewer so they would get affected by it. My story is about a girl which is bored and does not know what to do at first. After a while she has the idea to turn on some music so she could dance and jump on her bed. Suddenly she loses the control of her body and falls down to the floor. The story ends with her laying on the ground and not moving. The setting is a bedroom. In the picture is seen a bed, door, bedside table with a lamp on it, a music speaker and a picture in a frame hanging on the wall. I choose the room because it should look like an average room for a teenager. Furthermore should the room be clean so it w...
