Planning for a Shoot

Before I start with the today's brief I will reflect on my sketchbook´s critic. I learned that I would have to do more research. Therefore I looked at some other books and images which in my opinion convey my first theme the ballet and also my second theme brave.
I got positive feedback on my detailed and precise illustrations and the design of my mood boards.

Looking at our photo shoot we had to plan it first. In the fashion industry it is important to build up a relationship between customer and company. That happens by communicating a concept through images and creating an identity.
The main cause that a customer is loyal to a brand is if this brand has value.
Fashion promotion is about creating brand value by looking at the characteristics and lifestyles of customers who are going to this shop.
The patron get influenced by the style of the store, the customer service and the atmosphere. All in one he is affected by his or her physical experience.

To learn those aspects we had to plan a shoot that would affect the customer of photographer Wolfgang Tillmans.
To get an idea of their habits we looked at Tillmans and his photographs and tried to find out about hies lifestyle and especially about his clients lifestyles.
We thought about where they would shop and came to the conclusion that they would not be loyal to brands but that they would probably go to vintage or thrift shops.
Also we aspected that they would listen to soft rock, electro and techno and that not only in London but Berlin.
Referring to their taste of music we thought about them going on holidays to places like Amsterdam and Berlin as individuals to gain more experiences.
Also customers of Tillmans would be organic and going to Hall food places just as Waitrose.
Those would be aged between 18 and 40 and working in the creative sector.
Even they have a free attitude those people have an average education resulting from their interest in going to the museum to see Wolfgang Tillmans´s artwork.

Having an insight in their lifestyles we looked at the method about how a brand is build. The magazine and images need to tell a story so they need to have a narrative. Regarding to that the following photo shoot need to convey feelings which can either be created through expectations, memories, relationships or a story.
It would be boring to base the outfit and the whole narrative just on the theme brave. Because of that I had to brainstorm my thoughts about memory which I have chosen.

After that I chose the words thoughts and unforgettable experiences which I used for two more mind maps. In the end my shoot should have the theme dreaming.

Designing a design board helped me to think about the structure of my shoot. In this case I learned what the definition of a design board is and for what it is been used.
Basically it is an overall look of the shoot, the style of clothes, the model, colour and the movement of the narrative which is in my case dreaming.

My desinged board turned out to be blue because I was thinking about shooting at the water. It also showed the movement of the narrative, the style and the model.
I think that I could have done a better design board. It comply all the main aspects but it could have been more edgy.

Later the photo shoot took place in groups of three. Some of my photos should be photographed blurry to reflect Tillmans´s style. I also tried another location in between the trees because it looked very nicely and reminded me on my theme dreaming.

In the end I choose three different images of my model for the magazine pages, another one photographed from a skyscraper and the words “thoughts” and “day” because they refer to dreaming.

After today I learned how to direct in a creative way and the importance of brainstorming. I also got to know more about the photographer Wolfgang Tillmans and his customer lifestyles.
It was interesting to find out how to manipulate a special group to have them as clients in a special store.

British Values - Individual Liberty

The country Britain not only stands against terrorism and discrimination but also fights against those issues to protect society. The Prevent Strategy was set up in 2006 by the government to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists. The strategy is subdivided in three major aspects which are challenging the ideology that stands for terrorism, protecting innocent people and supporting those sectors which have a risk of radicalization. To prevent that young adults or even children turn into terrorists the government developed the Equality Act in 2010 which tackles inequality and prevents discrimination against people with 'protected characteristics' inside public schools. Examples for 'protected characteristics' are the age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, the religion, etcetera. In fact of that the British Values are defined as "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with differe...

Evaluation - Storytelling

During the project "Storytelling" I learned the techniques of wood carving and printmaking and how to digitalize those prints. Before I started designing I looked at some artists to get a quick understanding what printmaking actually means. Regarding to that  I could think of pictures which I could carve into wood blogs and that would express the books theme. Looking at my first prints I like the style of the tensing hands because they convey strength as well as tension and therefore they convey the detailed and well described characters that are a part of the book. This image combined with blood drops  also broaches the issue of brutality.  The other print that I developed shows a hand holding a head and a police tape covered  with  blood. This image relates to the strength and courage of the police man who wants to find the murder of a  shot man as well as the power of gangs in American Ghettos who are killing innocent people. I think I used the techni...
