Portrait of Celinn

My idea was to create a portrait of Celinn, who is a Graphic Design (BA) student at Ravensbourne, that is consisting of a painting and photographs.

I started with interviewing her and found out that she will specialize in Editorial in the Graphic Design Pathway. My first impression of her was open-minded, friendly and kind.

To create a portrait in size of a standard UK stamp I experimented how to collage the sketch I had drawn of her face.
While doing that I paid attention that Celinn would be recognizable in the outcomes. Then I used different effects to combine the photograph with the painting.

After printing the stamps I found out that I was not happy with my outcomes. Therefore I started thinking about a different layout because I liked my idea of combining painting and photographs.
I used bigger stripes of the photographs and also thought about its transparency.
The stamp should convey the feeling of movement and knowing Celinn just by looking at the artwork.
In that case I used more layers and different angles of her face.

After I created a design which I liked I wanted to make the stamp more personal. For this reason I wrote her name by hand on the outcome instead of using a computer font.

The task showed me that an artwork does not has to be big to be impressive. Therefore it is important to think about every detail even the outcome is small sized.

I enjoyed doing this project because I did not just learn how to create a small design but also about the Graphic Design Pathway and the kind of teaching at Ravensbourne.

British Values - Individual Liberty

The country Britain not only stands against terrorism and discrimination but also fights against those issues to protect society. The Prevent Strategy was set up in 2006 by the government to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists. The strategy is subdivided in three major aspects which are challenging the ideology that stands for terrorism, protecting innocent people and supporting those sectors which have a risk of radicalization. To prevent that young adults or even children turn into terrorists the government developed the Equality Act in 2010 which tackles inequality and prevents discrimination against people with 'protected characteristics' inside public schools. Examples for 'protected characteristics' are the age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, the religion, etcetera. In fact of that the British Values are defined as "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with differe...

Evaluation - Storytelling

During the project "Storytelling" I learned the techniques of wood carving and printmaking and how to digitalize those prints. Before I started designing I looked at some artists to get a quick understanding what printmaking actually means. Regarding to that  I could think of pictures which I could carve into wood blogs and that would express the books theme. Looking at my first prints I like the style of the tensing hands because they convey strength as well as tension and therefore they convey the detailed and well described characters that are a part of the book. This image combined with blood drops  also broaches the issue of brutality.  The other print that I developed shows a hand holding a head and a police tape covered  with  blood. This image relates to the strength and courage of the police man who wants to find the murder of a  shot man as well as the power of gangs in American Ghettos who are killing innocent people. I think I used the techni...
