Portrait of Celinn

My idea was to create a portrait of Celinn, who is a Graphic Design (BA) student at Ravensbourne, that is consisting of a painting and photographs.

I started with interviewing her and found out that she will specialize in Editorial in the Graphic Design Pathway. My first impression of her was open-minded, friendly and kind.

To create a portrait in size of a standard UK stamp I experimented how to collage the sketch I had drawn of her face.
While doing that I paid attention that Celinn would be recognizable in the outcomes. Then I used different effects to combine the photograph with the painting.

After printing the stamps I found out that I was not happy with my outcomes. Therefore I started thinking about a different layout because I liked my idea of combining painting and photographs.
I used bigger stripes of the photographs and also thought about its transparency.
The stamp should convey the feeling of movement and knowing Celinn just by looking at the artwork.
In that case I used more layers and different angles of her face.

After I created a design which I liked I wanted to make the stamp more personal. For this reason I wrote her name by hand on the outcome instead of using a computer font.

The task showed me that an artwork does not has to be big to be impressive. Therefore it is important to think about every detail even the outcome is small sized.

I enjoyed doing this project because I did not just learn how to create a small design but also about the Graphic Design Pathway and the kind of teaching at Ravensbourne.

British Values - Individual Liberty

The country Britain not only stands against terrorism and discrimination but also fights against those issues to protect society. The Prevent Strategy was set up in 2006 by the government to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists. The strategy is subdivided in three major aspects which are challenging the ideology that stands for terrorism, protecting innocent people and supporting those sectors which have a risk of radicalization. To prevent that young adults or even children turn into terrorists the government developed the Equality Act in 2010 which tackles inequality and prevents discrimination against people with 'protected characteristics' inside public schools. Examples for 'protected characteristics' are the age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, the religion, etcetera. In fact of that the British Values are defined as "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with differe...

FMP Proposal

The Final Mayor project is an eight weeks long project on a topic which I have to decide. To begin the project I need to write a proposal explaining the concept and aim of the project i am planing on doing. It can be anything such as advertising or graphic campaigns. Starting with a huge brain storming that shows themes I am interested in and ideas. I Split the mind map in four different topics, diabetes, social problems during different centuries, the danger of nightlife and globalisation. To think of more details and write down more ideas about each topic I also did mind maps on each single theme. While doing those I payed attention to think of questions that interests me and on which I could focus doing the project. My peer members helped me to sort out ideas which were not that important, focus and improve those which I could develop in my further process. Starting with initial ideas I formed proper questions out of them for which I could collect research. Not...

Can Graphic Design Save Your Life?

Going to the exhibition helped me a lot to inform myself better about different subjects in graphic design. It also showed me how important universal images are so that everybody understands them in the right way. Furthermore, it was interesting to gain knowledge about the history and the importance of graphics Before seeing this exhibition I thought that graphic design would mainly advertise companies but I realized that it is more than just advertisement. Sometimes it can save lives. Graphic design is often used to inform, educate, promote and persuade.   One important role of graphic design is helping to understand the human body and to inform people about health and treatment. For example by showing a cancer affected human his status to help him deciding either doing a chemotherapy or not. Referring to that the German doctor Fritz Kahn developed a visual storytelling design to explain how the body works.   Graphic design has also a big influe...
