Evaluation - Record Recode

Looking at the process and my outcomes from the project Record Recode I am happy with my work. I am the opinion that I designed a strong typeface that communicates my art term well. My peer review evidenced this also.
The whole process helped me to understand that it is important to experiment first and do not focus on one single idea to be able designing a strong font style. I experimented a lot with different materials and techniques to come up with different ideas that response to De Stijl such as digital editing using Photoshop and Illustrator, collaging and painting.
The peer feedback also showed that I designed a strong and big amount of experimentation which are based on research that is represented clearly.
Furthermore I learned a lot about the art movement De Stijl and Bauhaus which has a big impact on the worlds art. I am fascinated and inspired how this art term arose because I think it is interesting that people with different professions such as architects, designers and painters come together and create a new art movement.
A lot of different artists that were inspired by the style De Stijl and combined it with their personal details of its artworks showed me the diversity of people's handwriting and helped me to come up with a lot of different experimentations.
Furthermore I noticed that it is always important to think about what I want to communicate and why I am designing this specific typeface in order look at my readability and choose the level of detail.
In this project I focused on a font style that represents an art movement. Therefore I wanted to create an outcome that includes a lot of details and also remind on an artwork rather than a typeface.

Because of the one day task to design a whole typeface responding to our art movement I studied how to scan, edit and digitalize handwritten letters. I learned how to add colour, to design a layout and write a sentences using the software photoshop. Even though the picture is asymmetrical the whole image should be balanced. Furthermore the letters and background should harmonise.

The criticism helped me to developed my outcome by looking at the background and combining it more with the typography. Using the different squares as columns and thinking about the placement of the words more helped me to come up with another design. This one harmonises better and conveys the impression of the art movement even better.

Working in collectives offered me the chance to experiment with a green screen to be able to edit my photographs later on. The work in collectives broaches the issue of teamwork in a short period of time which I really enjoyed. It also thought me to communicate during the whole process and develop ideas further as going along.

Designing the five experimentation sheets were a good practice to layout images in view of creating my portfolio. Furthermore it is helpful to learn to make decisions in terms of which images are good enough to be shown in the design sheets and be presented in front of an audience.

To bring my outcome in any context I thought about laying it out as a poster for a exhibition at the Tate Modern.

The GIF that I designed taught me how to use Photoshop to create moving images using photographs to communicate my chosen art term visually. By experimenting with different backgrounds and layouts I realized as simpler the design ins as stronger the message behind the font.

However, the most important thing that I have learned from this project is that I am the designer and that I have to decide which artwork communicates my intentions the strongest. There is nothing wrong about asking other people for their opinions and advices but in the end I am the person who has to make the decision and be happy with it.

British Values - Individual Liberty

The country Britain not only stands against terrorism and discrimination but also fights against those issues to protect society. The Prevent Strategy was set up in 2006 by the government to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists. The strategy is subdivided in three major aspects which are challenging the ideology that stands for terrorism, protecting innocent people and supporting those sectors which have a risk of radicalization. To prevent that young adults or even children turn into terrorists the government developed the Equality Act in 2010 which tackles inequality and prevents discrimination against people with 'protected characteristics' inside public schools. Examples for 'protected characteristics' are the age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, the religion, etcetera. In fact of that the British Values are defined as "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with differe...

Process - Art Fund - Live Brief

This life project was different from the project we had worked on before. That is because the project brief is written by an existing company called Art Fund which wants us to create a campaign in their  name  that can drive sales of the student art pass amongst university students. Because of that we had to follow guidelines such as using their colour palette, font style and layout. The brief also gave us key insights in students lives as well as the key message which had to be express through our design to make the concept clear. I started with writing down the main aspects which the student art pass offers and what the company wants me to convey. Then I listed facts which needed to be considered for my campaign. My first idea was to design the student pass out of error windows which appear on the computer when an error happens. This idea was caused by the thought that students are mostly using computers and phones and are all of their free times onli...

Photo Sequence

The task was about teaching us how to create a story by using photos. The importance of that is to think about different aspects as we take them such as the composition, framing, light, location, shape/ form, texture/ line, colour, (a)symmetry, narrative, depth of field and the reveal. All in one it is necessary to know how to convey the story to the viewer so they would get affected by it. My story is about a girl which is bored and does not know what to do at first. After a while she has the idea to turn on some music so she could dance and jump on her bed. Suddenly she loses the control of her body and falls down to the floor. The story ends with her laying on the ground and not moving. The setting is a bedroom. In the picture is seen a bed, door, bedside table with a lamp on it, a music speaker and a picture in a frame hanging on the wall. I choose the room because it should look like an average room for a teenager. Furthermore should the room be clean so it w...
