Evaluation - Signs, Symbols & Semiotics

In the beginning my collective and I thought that the task to create a whole wayfinding system for North Greenwich in only one week is tough and really stressful.
However, we started with the brief right away and managed to finish it before the deadline.

On Monday we visited the North Greenwich Station and created a questionnaire to find more out about the already existing navigation signs. Referring to our trip it really helped us to get inspired for our final outcome. Furthermore it showed us that sometimes it is necessary to involve a wide range of people to create something that talks or response or even helps them.
Working in my group was really fun and effective. Everybody focused on the brief and had different ideas on how to come up with a general system. I also think that it is important to learn working in groups because usually when you work as a designer you need to be able to cooperate and be a part of a group. I also enjoyed working with my two peers because I have never worked with them before so I did not know their opinions and points of view.
Looking at the ideas we had and how we improved on them I think that the decisions in a collective are more considered in terms of functionality, design and target audience. In fact of this our outcome was almost ready to transfer.
Furthermore it was easy to split tasks between us because everybody acted tolerant towards the others.
Looking at the work we had to get done after University, each of us did what they were supposed to do so we were able to count on each other and to manage the time.
Because we designed our presentation as we went along and made new decisions we also focused on the layout and design of our sheets and did not have to rush on the last day.
Unfortunately on the day of presentation one of my peers were sick and could not support and present with us. However, she sent me her part of research so we had all of our presentation together and ready to present even before deadline.

Evaluation our outcome I think it is a good way to navigate tourists not speaking English as well as disabled people. Because our sign bases on a colour and texture coded system it is easy to understand for everybody and even fun to look at for children.
The critique of placing only one sign is not enough, helped us to look at different parts of North Greenwich for arriving people. Because of that we placed several signs around the area which explain our navigation system.

The other issue we had that even though we included textures to be followed, blind people would still have a problem finding those. To improve that we developed our texture coded pathways by having lines of the different textures so blind people could just follow those and do not have to find partly places shapes.

British Values - Individual Liberty

The country Britain not only stands against terrorism and discrimination but also fights against those issues to protect society. The Prevent Strategy was set up in 2006 by the government to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists. The strategy is subdivided in three major aspects which are challenging the ideology that stands for terrorism, protecting innocent people and supporting those sectors which have a risk of radicalization. To prevent that young adults or even children turn into terrorists the government developed the Equality Act in 2010 which tackles inequality and prevents discrimination against people with 'protected characteristics' inside public schools. Examples for 'protected characteristics' are the age, disability, sex or sexual orientation, the religion, etcetera. In fact of that the British Values are defined as "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with differe...

Process - Art Fund - Live Brief

This life project was different from the project we had worked on before. That is because the project brief is written by an existing company called Art Fund which wants us to create a campaign in their  name  that can drive sales of the student art pass amongst university students. Because of that we had to follow guidelines such as using their colour palette, font style and layout. The brief also gave us key insights in students lives as well as the key message which had to be express through our design to make the concept clear. I started with writing down the main aspects which the student art pass offers and what the company wants me to convey. Then I listed facts which needed to be considered for my campaign. My first idea was to design the student pass out of error windows which appear on the computer when an error happens. This idea was caused by the thought that students are mostly using computers and phones and are all of their free times onli...

Photo Sequence

The task was about teaching us how to create a story by using photos. The importance of that is to think about different aspects as we take them such as the composition, framing, light, location, shape/ form, texture/ line, colour, (a)symmetry, narrative, depth of field and the reveal. All in one it is necessary to know how to convey the story to the viewer so they would get affected by it. My story is about a girl which is bored and does not know what to do at first. After a while she has the idea to turn on some music so she could dance and jump on her bed. Suddenly she loses the control of her body and falls down to the floor. The story ends with her laying on the ground and not moving. The setting is a bedroom. In the picture is seen a bed, door, bedside table with a lamp on it, a music speaker and a picture in a frame hanging on the wall. I choose the room because it should look like an average room for a teenager. Furthermore should the room be clean so it w...
